IBIH is doing the Whole 30!
Hey Peeps! I’ve been toying with the idea of doing the Whole 30 for a couple of months now. I finally decided to go for it starting on August 1st, and I’d love for some of you guys to join me! For those of you who haven’t heard of it, the Whole 30 is a 30 day, hardcore Paleo detox that eliminates all sugars (including any artificial sweeteners), processed foods, grains, dairy, legumes, white potatoes, alcohol, sulfites or MSG. Instead I’ll be eating unprocessed meat, seafood, eggs, veggies, fruit (in moderation), and lots of healthy fats from oils, nuts and seeds.
This program was created by Dallas and Melissa Hartwig, and you can read about it in depth and find lots of testimonials on their website Whole9life.com. The program was designed as a reset for your body to eliminate toxins and triggers for all sorts of ailments and intolerances. Whether you deal with IBS (I’m talking to you KB!), food allergies, skin issues or anything else that is plaguing you that could be related to your diet, this program can help you find out what is causing it so you can fix it.
What finally made me decide to try it is the problems I’ve been having with the sudden onset of certain food intolerances – especially to alternative sweeteners and now some fruits and vegetables. I want to eliminate all the junk so I can start with a clean slate, and see if I feel better. I’ve been reading a lot of articles and testimonials from people stating that while low carb helped them lose weight, it was a Paleo way of eating that made them healthier. So I’m going to test it out for myself starting on August 1st. I’d love for you guys to join me – if there are any takers just introduce yourself in the comments section and let us know that you’ll be doing it too! I’m doing it either way and I’ll be updating you throughout the month with my progress – as well as posting Whole 30 approved recipes. I don’t anticipate any extreme detox symptoms since I’ve been doing low carb so long and already have cut out sugar, grains and processed foods. But I don’t think it will be a walk in the park either.
Some things I’m NOT looking forward to cutting out: Cheese (this will be the hardest I think), yogurt, the occasional bourbon, chocolate, anything sweetened, bacon, cream cheese pancakes
I’m excited about the challenge of creating delicious recipes within the Whole 30 guidelines. I hope that you guys will enjoy them, and I REALLY hope some of you will consider trying it out for yourselves. It’s only a month, and according to the testimonials it can change your life! Seems worth it to me! If you aren’t already following IBIH by email, Facebook and Twitter then I recommend you start, so you don’t miss out on the inevitable whining about detox symptoms, missing some of my favorite foods (a possible ode to cheese should I start feeling poetic), some delicious recipes, and hopefully lots of positive results in the second half of the month. Oh yeah, and I’m not supposed to weigh myself all month so I’ll weigh myself at the beginning and end of the month, and post any changes – preferably a reduction! Hopefully it will be entertaining for you all to read, and if any of you do it with me we’ll have a great time discussing our results/pining for bacon together!
I’m posting about it today (July 24th) so that if any of you want to try it too you’ll have time to use up all of that bacon, cheese and chocolate you have in the house (or maybe that’s just me!) before our start date on the 1st. I’ll also be posting some non-Whole 30 recipes this weekend to clear out my queue before we start.

And if you feel comfortable sharing, let us know what your motivation is – whether it’s to clear up your skin, lose weight, get relief from digestion issues/food intolerances, have more energy, etc. Then we can regroup after the month is over and share all of our results!
Can’t wait to get started! Now I’m going to go eat some chocolate – possibly with cheese. And bacon! Sounds like a Chopped mystery basket! Chocolate covered bacon dipped in cheese fondue anyone? Guess what I’m having for lunch!? nom, nom, nom… ;)
