Foodless Fridays – Cookbooks and “Poo”
So today’s Foodless Friday post isn’t exactly foodless since I’m sharing some food related news. But no recipe so I guess that still counts – and recipe-less Friday just doesn’t have the same ring to it!
Please take note of this giant photo to my left – I made it huge so you couldn’t miss it. This is Foodie by Glam’s first cookbook, Family Flavors, which you can download for free here. It’s not a low carb or gluten free cookbook, but there are some recipes that can be tweaked like the Tomatillo Guacamole, Sicilian Eggplant and Onion Casserole, and Peanut Crusted Pork Tenderloin to name a few. The reason I’m sharing with you is because I have two recipes in the book, and one of them is this lovely Jicama Apple Salad ON THE COVER! That’s right peeps, my photo made the cover!!! So of course I have to tell everyone I know about it. And it’s not easy to work that casually into a conversation, let me tell you (“Oh, you want me to cover this shift for you? Speaking of covers…”) so I figured I’d just post it here (and on facebook, twitter, google+, and pinterest – might even take a photo of it with my phone for instagram – would that be too much? Ok maybe…) all subtle-like. Heh heh. Ok so I know it’s free and only an e-book, but still…the cover….’nuf said.

Now for the Poo. You know you’re dying to know. And actually it’s “no-poo” which sounds even scarier, but in fact it’s not what you’re all thinking. I believe in sharing, but not THAT much! ha ha! “No-poo” actually refers to not washing your hair – not with shampoo anyway. There is a whole movement (pun TOTALLY intended, ha ha!) dedicated to not washing your hair. It’s like an underground subculture – or at least that’s what I thought anyway. Turns out, there are more people doing it than you might think. And their hair LOOKS. AWESOME. Some friends stayed over last weekend and Tanya, who has the hair we all wish we had that can actually make use of those amazing Pinterest tutorials like crazy braids and sock bun curls that I’m always pinning but don’t actually have enough hair to do. Yeah, she does – it’s practically down to her waist and all shiny and thick and stuff – and I can’t even hate her for it because she’s so cool. Although I might have wanted to scratch her eyes out a tiny bit when she told me that it grows like a weed and she’s thinking of cutting it all off and donating it again, because it grows back so fast. My hair does NOT grow like a weed. More like a cactus. Or an oak tree. As in not noticeable at all, even after months of “growing it out.” I’m taking supplements in hopes that it will speed up, we’ll see what happens…..nope, still nothing.
So when Tanya told me that she was doing the “no-poo” thing that I had just been researching on Pinterest, I pummeled her with questions about it and turns out she loves it. She said it made her hair clean and shiny and manageable and the proof was in the pudding – her hair is gorgeous! I asked her what version she is using because there are several out there. Turns out she was doing the baking soda and water to clean, and then the vinegar rinse to condition. I decided to give it a try, though I’m using a lemon rinse to condition instead of the vinegar because some people say that vinegar will darken light hair which I don’t want. It’s been about a week and so far I really like it – who knew?! Next Friday I’ll share the recipes I’m using, my observations and some photos!
OK, that’s all I’ve got for today peeps! Have a great weekend! XO
