I’m going to leave this keto bang bang shrimp recipe right here for when you need a low carb dinner on the table ASAP. You’ll thank me later!

NOTE: I recently updated this Keto Bang Bang Shrimp recipe post from 6 years ago, and normally I’d take out the extra stories that Google hates now and just throw the term Keto Bang Bang Shrimp in here a bunch of times for SEO purposes (read my rant on this here), but I decided to leave this one intact because Google is not always the boss of me (shhhh.)
Before I get to this keto bang bang shrimp recipe, I just have to fill you in on my latest adventures in lake life. As always, you can use the jump to recipe to skip it if you prefer!
So last night I left all of the windows open and didn’t wake up with frost bite this morning, which is how I know for sure that Spring has finally arrived in New York.
It was glorious, though the sounds of the lake right outside our window at night is going to take some getting used to.
For the first five minutes in bed I was lulled by the waves rhythmically lapping against the dock, and the contented soft calls of the geese and ducks drifting across the water.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh…..
I remember thinking how peaceful it was – that it was going to be an amazing Summer of drifting off to sleep to the sound of nature’s symphony every night…
Then somehow things took a disturbing turn and every noise started to seem sinister.
I was sure that the creaking I heard was someone stealthily making their way up the back porch stairs and prying the screens off…
Nope – just the neighbor’s boat scraping against the slip next door.
Wait… is that the cat puking in the other room again?
Nope. Just a series of small waves hitting the pilings from someone’s late night boat ride on the other side of the marina.
Gasp! Is that Hungry Jr. calling out terrified in the middle of the night?!
Nope. Local racoons squealing over some half eaten treasure pilfered from the overturned garbage can.
IT. WENT. ON. AND. ON… AND ON.

Now some of you might be asking yourselves (as would I):
“Why didn’t this chick just get up and shut the windows?!?!?”
Two reasons.
First, there are a ton of them and they crank shut which takes forever and is super annoying.
Second, and more importantly:
I AM NOT A QUITTER.
Anyway, I finally fell asleep at who knows what time… only to be woken up what felt like seconds later to the rude honking of an army of geese RIGHT OUTSIDE of our open bedroom windows at FIVE-THIRTY IN THE MORNING.
I’m just saying – it’s a good thing we don’t own a shotgun, because I would have seriously considered using it.

Anyway, you get the picture – I’m exhausted this morning.
Coffee. More. Me. Now.
Hey, you know what’s awesome when you’re sleep deprived and you still have to function and be productive the next day?
NOTHING.
Just kidding – an easy and delicious dinner recipe, that’s what. It doesn’t get much easier or more delicious than this keto Bang Bang Shrimp recipe either.

Keto Bang Bang Shrimp = Crunchy. Sweet. Smoky. Spicy. BLISS.
I like to keep already peeled and de-veined shrimp in the freezer for situations like this, which costs a little more but saves all that tedious work of doing it yourself. Then you just run it under cold water to thaw it, toss it in the coating, and fry it up which only takes a couple of short minutes!
If you’re really looking to get this keto bang bang shrimp on the table fast, you can get the pre-bagged slaw mix and save yourself some chopping – and avoid likely maiming yourself in the process if you’re in full on sleep walker mode like I am today.
The keto bang bang sauce, which is where most of the awesome flavor comes from, can be made in less than 2 minutes and tastes amazing on EVERYTHING.
It’s so easy that you literally add the ingredients to your magic bullet or blender and blend for 10 seconds.
Boom. Dinner is served.

Even with some short cuts, this keto Bang Bang Shrimp recipe is so good that your family will be too distracted to realize that you’ve suddenly disappeared and gone to bed early (with all of the windows closed this time.)
“Hey where did Mom go?”
“Who cares, this shrimp is amazing!”
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz….

Keto Bang Bang Shrimp with Asian Slaw – Low Carb
- Total Time: 25 minutes
- Yield: 5 servings 1x
- Diet: Diabetic
Description
An easy and delicious copycat recipe for keto Bang Bang Shrimp, complete with a tasty low carb slaw.
Ingredients
For the slaw:
- 6 cups shredded Napa cabbage
- 1/2 cup chopped scallions
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
- 1/4 cup sliced or slivered radishes
For the sauce:
- 1/3 cup mayonnaise
- 1 Tbsp chopped roasted red peppers
- 1.5 Tbsp Sriracha hot sauce
- 2 Tbsp granulated sugar substitute
- 2 Tbsp unsweetened rice wine vinegar
- 1 tsp fish sauce
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
For the Shrimp:
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp Sriracha hot sauce
- 1 lb extra large shrimp, peeled and de-veined, thawed
- 1/2 cup coconut flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger (dried)
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- Avocado (or other) oil for frying
Instructions
For the Slaw:
- Either use a prebagged mix and just toss some cilantro and scallions on there for an Asian flair – or combine all of the listed ingredients and arrange on a large plate or platter. Chill.
For the Sauce:
- Combine all of the ingredients in the small cup of a magic bullet or blender. Blend until smooth. Chill until ready to serve.
For the Shrimp:
- Beat the egg and Sriracha together in a small bowl.
- In another small bowl, combine the coconut flour, salt, cayenne, ginger, and garlic powder and stir.
- Rinse the shrimp and pat dry.
- Add the shrimp to the egg mixture and then toss to coat in the seasoned coconut flour.
- Heat oil (about 2 inches deep) in a heavy duty medium sized pan until it sizzles when you flick a (TINY) drop of water into it.
- To conserve oil, don’t use a huge pan – even if it means you have to cook the shrimp in smaller batches of about 5 at a time.
- Cook the coated shrimp until golden brown and firm – if your oil is hot this should only take 2 minutes or so.
- Remove to a paper towel lined plate until all of the shrimp are cooked.
- Arrange the hot shrimp on the cold slaw and drizzle with the sauce.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
For the best results you want to prepare your slaw and sauce first – then your shrimp is still crispy and hot, which makes a nice contrast when you serve it with the cold slaw and sauce.

Just made this for dinner tonight and my husband and I loved it :)
I added just a little more cayenne to the flour mixture ( I can never have things too spicy)
Will definitely be making again soon!

2 T sugar to 1/3 c mayo seems like a lot of sugar to me.
Is 2T really the correct amonnt?
I know I can *and will) reduce the amount, I just wanted to verify the accuracy of the recipe as written.
Mellissa Sevigny says
I used sugar substitute but yes, it’s meant to be both spicy and sweet.
Kimber says
For Keto use Stevia instead of granulated sugar. I’ll try this tonight.
H says
I enjoyed this recipe, but found the slaw waaay to sweet with 2 tbsp of truvia (the erythritol/stevia blend). Tried the slaw again with 2 tsp and it was perfect.
Beckie says
So I made this tonight. Very tasty. For some reason, though, I think the coconut flour made some sort of frothiness occur while I was frying up the shrimp. It was weird!
I may try again subbing 2T of arrowroot powder for 1/4 c coconut flour.
Again: yummmmmm!!

you are making me so hungry this morning it hurts. also, my stomach hurts because i’m laughing. I HAVE HAD THAT NIGHT BEFORE. :)
Mellissa Sevigny says
Thanks for making me feel less alone in my sleep deprived craziness! And now you’ve also had an ab workout – you’re welcome! :)

I understand your pain. I am very sensitive to sounds when I sleep. I finally gave up and use foam ear plugs. The pink ones are nice, soft and short (for women). Cheap and a wonderful solution. They don’t cut everything out (good – would not want to sleep through the fire alarm) but they muffle the small sounds so you don’t wake to everything. Bonus – they muffle the hubby’s snoring too. I find my earplugs at grocery store.
Mellissa Sevigny says
Thanks for the recommendation – I definitely considered ear plugs after that first night! I have slept with the windows open the last few nights though and have had no trouble – I think I’ve finally gotten used to all of the noises and I’m enjoying the fresh air! :)
Jen says
Definitely sleep deprived. lol (pssst… you totally forgot to embed the product links in the recipe) All razzing aside, this sounds yummy and I can’t wait to try it.
Mellissa Sevigny says
See?!?!? I didn’t even notice that Jen! I’ll have to go back and fix it when I get a chance, thanks for letting me know! ;)

What can I use in place of the “fish sauce”?? I love all your recipes and thrilled that you just posted Bang Bang Shrimp!!! One of my favorite things when eating out. Now I can make at home. Thanks again for all your hard work.

If you add 1/2t. of unflavored gelatin to your coconut flour, it would stick better to the shrimp while frying. This trick also works when baking coated meats.
The protein in the gelatin forms a bond with the protein in the meat (or egg coating), making it unbreakable.
Jen says
Ooh really?? That sounds like a nifty trick.
Mellissa Sevigny says
I have gelatin and will be trying this on my next batch of fried anything – thanks for the tip!
Matt says
You are funny. Sleep deprived and funny.
Mellissa Sevigny says
Yes. Yes I am.
