This Brazilian Shrimp Stew or Moqueca de Camaroes is a creamy, flavorful soup that is spicy and loaded with tender shrimp. It’s super healthy for you and fits into Keto, Whole30 and even Squeaky Clean Keto eating plans.

One thing I love about soup recipes (or stews, chili’s, chowders or pretty much anything eaten out of a bowl) is that they are relatively easy to make low carb and gluten free, without sacrificing flavor or texture. This velvety keto Brazilian shrimp stew meets both criteria, and is the perfect soup recipe for any time of year.
Moqueca de Camaroes is a traditional Brazilian fish stew that is usually flavored with coconut milk, coriander, tomatoes, chilis, onion and garlic.
It’s red color usually comes from Red Palm Oil or Dende which can be hard to find in your average grocery store. Red Palm oil is incredibly healthy for you and loaded with vitamin A, so if you can get it definitely seek it out. I used olive oil in my version to make it easier for you to recreate – and it’s just as delicious in my opinion!
If you want to try it with the traditional red palm oil you can find it on Amazon for less than $10 a jar.

This easy and delicious low carb Brazilian shrimp stew recipe comforts you like you need when the weather cools down and you feel like nesting, but it also stimulates you with a fiery heat and tropical flavor that makes you wish you were eating it on some Bahian beach with your toes jammed into the sand.
Skeptical that you can get all of that from a bowl of keto shrimp stew? Taste it for yourself and you’ll find out what I’m talking about!

I just finished the last bowl of this for lunch. It is SSOOooo delicious! I will definitely be making this again! And again! I only had dehydrated cilanto. I’m also not so into sriracha, although I have recently fallen completely in love with GOT CHU Korean hot sauce, so I subbed of course! There is 1 carb per T of the Got Chu opposed to the <1 carb per t. of the sriracha that's not too big of a difference in carbs in the total 2 T used. I did have the red palm oil on hand and used it. I wasn't sure if the 1 C of coconut milk should be from a carton or the canned…..I used it from the carton. BUT, even after the minor subs or changes…. this is a delicious stew! Absolutely a keeper.
Thanks for sharing this one!!

Oh Mellissa, this is the most heavenly meal, even my husband who is not really into Keto loves it. I have been practically living on your recipes for the past I think 5 years but at 82 I feel I probably owe you my life as I have taken off about 130 lbs and have a whole new life, so much more energetic, go to the pool every other day with 30 minutes of exercise first. How can I possibly thank you. Only by buying your books and spreading your name all over Canada and part of Spain. Thank you so much and please keep up with these life saving wonderful recipes. Thank you Peggy

LOVE this recipe!!! It is one of our go to’s and I make it often and year-round. It is still light enough to eat during the warmer months and warming enough with its kick during the colder months. Even better that it is a guilt free dish! I have made it for friends and family and they all love it too!
Mellissa Sevigny says
Thanks for letting me know this one gets high marks from friends and family too Jessica!

OMG, full of so much flavor, and with easy ingredients. I will admit, I tweeked the recipe a bit, just because I roasted my own pepper, and what am I going to do with the rest, so added it. I had semi dried cilantro in the fridge, added the entirety cuz the rest might just mold,, my can of tomatoes was only 10 Oz, so put in 2, love garlic so I might have put in a tad more, and Marie Sharp’s pepper sauce might have been more than 2T, but, what the heck. Only wish I could legitimately serve it over rice, but will resist. GREAT FLAVORS

Marie Sharps is THE BEST and most people have never heard of it! We ate it all the time when living in Belize where it’s from, and just found it at our local Walmart here in New York and could not have been more excited – especially my 15 year old son who has really been missing it since we moved! Glad you liked the soup – and yes it would be amazing with rice if you aren’t eating keto.
