This Brazilian Shrimp Stew or Moqueca de Camaroes is a creamy, flavorful soup that is spicy and loaded with tender shrimp. It’s super healthy for you and fits into Keto, Whole30 and even Squeaky Clean Keto eating plans.

One thing I love about soup recipes (or stews, chili’s, chowders or pretty much anything eaten out of a bowl) is that they are relatively easy to make low carb and gluten free, without sacrificing flavor or texture. This velvety keto Brazilian shrimp stew meets both criteria, and is the perfect soup recipe for any time of year.
Moqueca de Camaroes is a traditional Brazilian fish stew that is usually flavored with coconut milk, coriander, tomatoes, chilis, onion and garlic.
It’s red color usually comes from Red Palm Oil or Dende which can be hard to find in your average grocery store. Red Palm oil is incredibly healthy for you and loaded with vitamin A, so if you can get it definitely seek it out. I used olive oil in my version to make it easier for you to recreate – and it’s just as delicious in my opinion!
If you want to try it with the traditional red palm oil you can find it on Amazon for less than $10 a jar.

This easy and delicious low carb Brazilian shrimp stew recipe comforts you like you need when the weather cools down and you feel like nesting, but it also stimulates you with a fiery heat and tropical flavor that makes you wish you were eating it on some Bahian beach with your toes jammed into the sand.
Skeptical that you can get all of that from a bowl of keto shrimp stew? Taste it for yourself and you’ll find out what I’m talking about!

Holy Cow! This was so good. Followed directions exactly. It was perfect. Will definitely make again and again. I’ll be sharing this recipe for sure.

Do you think this would freeze well?

Made this, but since someone (husband) has high BP, I omitted the salt and instead of using diced tomatoes in a can I used fresh tomatoes and fresh hot peppers, but only a little because I don’t like too much heat. It was delicious!

I made this again yesterday with some changes. I used lite coconut milk and instead of chopping onions & peppers I bought in the produce section pico de gallo. Much easier and faster since it has diced tomatoes, bell peppers, and onions in it. It also already has cilantro in it too. I also buy deveined and shelled shrimp. I will definitely keep making it this way. I will say that because I used lite coconut milk that it wasn’t as rich and hearty, it was more broth-like, but I still liked it. But if you want it to be rich than by original and not lite. Oh and I thre some spinach on it because had I not it would have went bad, but I think I will add it on purpose next time because it adds a nice color to it. Just throw it in at the very end like two minutes before serving.

Can I use Heavy Cream instead of coconut milk? I am allergic to coconut but this recipe sounds amazing!

This was the best meal ever!!!! I made it for my big baby of a boyfriend who had a tooth extracted. He absolutely LOVED it, I added lobster and a little bit of thyme too. I was over generous with the salt so I diced some potatoes super tiny and added them in to absorb the salt. I also used an entire can of coconut milk. This was simple and easy, I spent more time cleaning the shrimp than cooking the actual meal. I’m definitely going to add this in my meal rotation….

I made this recipe for the second time last night and we absolutely love it. My husband asked if I could add it to our regular rotation of dinners. This is such an easy recipe full of flavor.

Melissa, Thank you so much for all of your delicious recipes! My hubby and I have LOVED each of the recipes we’ve tried from your site, and I continue to look to your page first for almost all of our new-recipes-to-try!
For this stew specifically, I only had fresh green pepper, so I broil-roasted it using a trick from Rachel Ray, and I used canned diced tomatoes, bc that is all we had on-hand. Me-oh-my! My husband is not a big seafood fan, and he ate a double portion of this! It is so flavorful and rich but at the same time light and fresh! Thank you again-

So glad this was a hit Rebecca! We love this one too though I haven’t made it in ages – thinking I need to head out and grab some shrimp so I can make it again STAT! :) Thanks!
