These easy keto sausage rolls are so versatile that they can be enjoyed as a low carb breakfast, lunch, or dinner. And they are so delicious that you might want to eat them for all three! (Dairy free & nut free options also available.)
My first experience with non keto sausage rolls was about 5 years ago when we first moved to Belize. There was a small bakery near our condo owned by a sweet couple from the UK, and they always had a cake stand piled high with freshly baked sausage rolls on the counter.

Being more of a savory than sweet person, I opted for the sausage roll that first time, while the guys got cinnamon rolls (also amazing.) After reheating it in the oven, it was brought to our tiny table on a plate along with a little bowl of sweet chili sauce.
After one bite I was hooked! I must have eaten at least 50 of those things by the time we moved off the island. Since then we’ve been to London multiple times, and I’ve ordered many styles and flavors of sausage rolls at the different markets.
They were alway delicious, but I have yet to have one better than at The Baker in San Pedro Belize.

So what is a sausage roll anyway? If you’ve heard of pigs in a blanket, a sausage roll is similar. It can be made with almost any type of sausage that is then rolled in pastry and baked.
The end result is a crusty, flaky pastry with a lush sausage center.
If you’re not sold already, you should probably check yourself for a pulse!

To make these easy keto sausage rolls low carb and gluten free, I replaced the traditional puff pastry dough with my easy keto dough which worked pretty well. Nothing beats puff pastry if I’m being honest, but this was a fantastic low carb substitute for sure.
Don’t be intimidated by the look of them, because assembling these keto sausage rolls is pretty simple…
You’re basically going to form the sausage into small cylinder shapes, then roll out your dough and cut it into strips that you’ll wrap around the sausage. Then garnish, bake, and you’re in business.
Keto Sausage Rolls Step by Step:

Guys I really, really love these keto sausage rolls, and I think you will too. So I recommend making a double, or even triple batch, because they keep in the fridge for up to 5 days, and freeze perfectly – so you can have them at the ready any time you need a quick meal.
These low carb sausage rolls can be thawed and reheated in the oven, toaster oven, or even faster in the microwave. Honestly, I like them just as much cold or at room temperature – so you can pack them frozen in the morning and they’ll be thawed by lunchtime.

I’m including some FAQs before the recipe card to help you get the best possible results with your easy keto sausage rolls. If I missed something please let me know in the comments and I’ll add it here for easy reference by others.
Who invented sausage rolls?
While combining meat and pastry is an age-old tradition in almost every country in some form or another, we can thank the British for the sausage roll that inspired my keto version. It’s a common street food snack in the UK that dates back hundreds of years and is still widely sold in bakeries and markets today.
What kind of sausage is best for this recipe?
Almost any sausage will work for these sausage rolls, but my absolute favorite flavor and texture for this recipe comes from pork sausage that you can purchase in plastic sleeves in the breakfast meat section of most grocery stores. It’s mild and herbaceous, and has a fine grind, so it’s not super chewy like an Italian style sausage.
I know Jimmy Dean and Jones Dairy Farm are two common brands of this type in the states, and if you can find the one labelled as Sage flavored, then it’s even better in my opinion.
If you don’t eat pork, you can substitute turkey sausage with good results.
What kind of sauce should I use to dip these in?
Since I’m a fan of salty and sweet, I love serving these easy keto sausage rolls with my own keto sweet chili sauce. But you can also use mustard, ketchup, tomato sauce, or really any low carb mayo or sauce that goes well with sausage.
These keto sausage rolls are definitely tasty enough to eat on their own with no sauce at all if that’s your preference.
Can I make these low carb sausage rolls nut free?
Yes. My easy keto dough uses almond flour, but there are plenty of nut free keto dough recipes out there that you can substitute with. This one from Sugar Free Mom, is just one example.
Can these sausage rolls be made dairy free?
Also yes. If you replace the easy keto dough with my dairy free keto HOP bread dough, then you’re mostly there. Just be sure to also choose a sausage without any dairy products added – you’d be surprised how many do contain milk proteins, so if it’s important to you then be sure to read the ingredients list before purchasing.

I made these yesterday. Not beautiful but so good. I ate one hot for lunch yesterday and then took and ate cold at the office for lunch today. I will be making these often as they are great for lunch.

Finally made this, two batches: one with chorizo, another with sage pork sausage. Chorizo batch is insanely good. Sage is still in the oven. Even messing up the recipe (I sliced the dough strips the wrong way) they look and taste great! Oh, I also used Everything Bagel sprinkles because why not?

Lord have mercy! You want to know jow good these sausage rolls are? They are so good that I’ve been eating them for breakfast and lunch all week. For breakfast, I pop a little “no sugar added” orange marmalade in the microwave for a few seconds and use that for the dipping sauce. I’ve use all kinds of more traditional savory dippers for lunch (and once I even tried some leftover Hot and Sour soup–surprisingly delicious). There doesn’t seem to be a wrong way to eat these rolls. Whatever fits into your eating plan. Thanks, Mellissa.

I miss sausage rolls so much with moving from the UK to the US. I have been making my own with the flaky pastry. But going low carb I did wonder if I could do these any more. Thanks for sharing. I get my sausage meat from aldi and yes it does miss the sage, so I add my own.
