Got a hankering for creamy, tangy goodness? Look no further than this homemade blue cheese dressing recipe! Perfect for dipping veggies, wings, or anything your heart desires. Plus, it’s keto and low carb friendly!
I was not on team blue cheese as a kid – I thought it smelled like old socks and tasted even worse. Thankfully, as I got older, I came around to the wonderful funkiness that blue cheese can add to a dish – and embraced blue cheese dressing as an easy and convenient way to deliver it.
Blue cheese dressing is a classic favorite that goes well with a variety of dishes such as salads, chicken wings, and vegetables. Unfortunately, many store-bought dressings contain added sugars, artificial flavors, and unhealthy fats that can derail your keto diet.
Enter this homemade recipe! Its bold, tangy flavor is sure to satisfy any blue cheese craving. And with its keto-friendly ingredients, you can indulge without the guilt.
Tips for Making the Best Blue Cheese Dressing
Use good quality blue cheese
Since so much of the flavor in this dressing comes from the cheese itself, you’ll get the best results of you splurge on a good quality blue cheese. The most common types of blue cheese are:
- Blue cheese (I love Maytag and Point Reyes brands)
- Stilton
- Roquefort (made from sheep’s milk)
- Gorgonzola
Don’t use the blue cheese crumbles
The pre-crumbled blue cheese can contain additives, included starches, to prevent clumping, and you don’t want that stuff in your dressing.
It’s so easy to crumble or cut blue cheese that you’re really not saving any time by purchasing the crumbles, and it’s probably not the best quality either.
If you like it chunky
I love a chunky blue cheese dressing on a salad – though it’s not as good for dipping things like buffalo wings in because the chunks tend to fall off anyway.
If you want this dressing to be chunkier, just crumble an additional 1/4 cup of blue cheese into the dressing after blending.
Storage information
This dressing will keep or up to a week in the refrigerator safely and before it loses flavor. I don’t recommend freezing or it will separate and you definitely don’t want that. Just plan to make enough to last you a week or less – this recipe can be halved if you don’t need 8 servings.
